How much water should you use to thin acrylic paints?
You can thin artists‘ acrylic paints with water. So you don’t need a special medium to make the paint more fluid. Just add a bit of water and mix with your paintbrush. But we recommend thinning artists‘ acrylic paints like SOLO GOYA Acrylic and SOLO GOYA Triton with a maximum of 10 % water. Otherwise, the balance of the paint formulation can be upset. Too much water in the paint makes it brittle and causes it to dry unevenly. One alternative to water would be to thin the artists' acrylics with pouring medium, e.g. SOLO GOYA Pouring Fluid.
Why are acrylic paints darker after they have dried?
In the tube and freshly painted onto a surface, artists‘ acrylic paints look lighter than when they have dried. From a light turquoise shade, the paint dries to a colour that is 1-2 nuances darker. We describe this phenomenon as a colour shift. It occurs because light scattering makes the binder in artists‘ acrylic paints appear milky while the paint is still wet. So the wet colour is slightly lightened. As the the paints dry, the water contained evaporates and the binder becomes transparent. Now, the artists‘ acrylic paint shows its true colour. To decide on the right colour before you buy, we suggest you study the color chart. Most of our retailers have colour charts for SOLO GOYA Acrylic and SOLO GOYA Triton at their outlet. When you mix a colour shade on a palette, we recommend that you mix it one nuance lighter so that the colour does not appear too dark once it has dried.
Why are acrylic paints usually matt?
Many artists‘ acrylic paints dry to a matt finish. Artists' acrylic paints from KREUL are matt in a dry state. That is because of the combination of selected raw materials. The fillers used, like, for example, chalk, ensure good opacity of the paints. They also lead to a high degree of mattness.
SOLO GOYA Triton Acrylic has the highest degree of mattness of our artists' acrylic paints. The paints are ideal for priming coats and backgrounds. After all, further coats of paint adhere particularly well to a matt surface. SOLO GOYA Acrylic dries matt and is perfect for acrylic painting in layers. As is often the method of choice for abstract art. If you prefer your artwork to be glossy, after it has dried, spray KREUL Varnish Gloss 150 ml on top.

- Fast drying time (depending on the room temperature and air humidity, some parts dry in 5 - 10 minutes)
- Working iover with several washes is possible without removing underlying layers of paints
- Artists' acrylic paints are available in many different consistencies. SOLO GOYA Acrylic is creamy and SOLO GOYA Triton Acrylic liquid.
- No brush cleaner or white spirit is necessary to clean the paintbrushes. Just wipe any remaining paint off on a painting rag and clean the brushes with curd soap under running water. You can find more information on paintbrush cleaning here.
