How long does KREUL Glass & Porcelain Potch need to dry before it can be fixed in the oven?
The drying time of 4 hours is important for fixing KREUL Glass & Porcelain Potch and unfortunately cannot be shortened. The reason for the specified drying time is that the water content in the adhesive should be completely evaporated before fixing in the oven. Unfortunately, it is also not possible to speed up the drying process with a hairdryer. Handmade items simply require a little patience.
Can potch and paint be combined? How should they be fixed in place?
If you want to use KREUL Glass & Porcelain Potch and KREUL Glass & Porcelain Paint, we recommend the following procedure: First paint the crockery. Then leave it to dry for 4 hours, place it in a cold oven and bake at 160 °C top and bottom heat for 90 minutes. Allow the piece to cool in the oven. Has everything cooled down enough that you can handle the tableware safely? Then you can now decorate it using KREUL Glass & Porcelain Potch with the decoupage technique. Allow the tableware to dry again for 4 hours and bake in the oven for 90 minutes – this time at 130 °C top and bottom heat. Allow to cool again.
Alternatively, you can use both techniques together, i.e. decorate the crockery using the decoupage technique, add colour accents, leave to dry for 4 hours, place in a cold oven and bake at 130 °C top and bottom heat for 90 minutes. Unfortunately, the finished product is then only partially dishwasher-safe. If it has only been fixed in this way, it is better to wash it by hand with a soft cloth. This will keep the painted colour bright and beautiful.
Is KREUL Glass and Porcelain Potch dishwasher safe and suitable for cups and plates?
To decorate tableware using decoupage techniques, you will need KREUL Glass & Porcelain Potch. Once fixed in the oven (90 minutes at 130 °C top and bottom heat), the decorated tableware can be cleaned in the dishwasher. As with any handmade, unique item, you should use a gentle programme.
KREUL Glass & Porcelain Potch is not only suitable for embellishing ceramic or glass decorations with decoupage. Cups, drinking glasses and plates can also be decorated with your favourite napkin motifs. Please note that the eating and drinking areas should remain free and should not be decorated. The special adhesive is non-toxic. Hot food could soften the hardened decoupage motifs. These could then come off the crockery again. It is therefore better to decorate the edges of plates. Bowls, cups and drinking glasses should only be decorated on the outside.
How can you avoid bubbles or wrinkles when applying KREUL Glass & Porcelain Potch?
A tried-and-tested method for achieving smooth decoupage motifs on tableware is as follows: similar to wallpapering, KREUL Glass & Porcelain Potch should be applied with even strokes. Do not place the napkin on the surface as a whole, but rather starting from one side. A dry, soft brush is a useful tool for pressing down and smoothing the napkin. It is better to start with small napkin motifs or cut out individual elements from the napkin and stick them on. This is easier for beginners than placing the entire napkin on without creases. Additional tip: Remove excess Potch from the porcelain with a paper towel or cotton swab before everything hardens.
Can KREUL Glass & Porcelain Potch also be used on coloured porcelain?
The coloured napkin motifs look best on a white background. We therefore recommend using white tableware when designing with KREUL Glass & Porcelain Potch. Napkin areas in light colours such as pink or yellow would be less visible on a dark background. Incidentally, white napkin areas become transparent when using the special adhesive.
