Layer by layer in dialogue with colour
A bright yellow flows across the huge, stretched canvas, alongside which a dark blue makes its way. The artist likes to play with liquid acrylic paint, diluting it further and pouring it onto the canvas. His painting technique is a play with layers, transitions and contrasts. Acrylic paint is poured, sprayed, painted over and even sanded down again. ‘It's a process of allowing and reacting, in which spontaneity is just as important to me as readjustment. It's a dialogue: I put paint on the canvas and the picture responds to me,’ says Markus Prummer.
In this way, new layers are constantly revealed, shining like memories beneath the surface. Fluorescent pink meets deep violet, delicate transparencies meet strong contrasts – colourful images that often measure three by three metres and immediately make their presence felt in the room. However, the artist's primary goal is not to create a colourful image, but rather a work of art with exciting points of contact.

Infinito: Open, lively and ambiguous
‘I came to abstract painting because it offers me the greatest freedom to concentrate on the essence of my work: the colour itself,’ says Markus Prummer. This freedom gives rise to works that impose no constraints, but rather give viewers room for their own discoveries. Each painting is open, multi-layered, an ‘infinito’ – unfinished, infinite and alive. ‘For me, it is precisely this openness that constitutes the core of abstract painting,’ says the artist. ‘I am fascinated by the processual nature of it: boundaries are broken down, clear ambiguities dissolve and new connections are constantly being created.’
For Markus Prummer, abstract painting also has a practical side effect. If he doesn't like something, he goes over it again with paint and something completely new emerges. A new beginning is always possible.

Triton: A dependable friend
The artist likes to use KREUL paints. Almost the entire SOLO GOYA Triton Acrylic colour range is stacked on the shelves in his studio. After a long search, he was won over by the ‘Triton’ paints, which have now become a reliable friend.
‘For me, it's not just paint, but a tool that allows me to play with spatial depth, texture and dynamics.’ Their luminosity and versatility open up countless possibilities for him to create new visual spaces time and time again. He did not know that KREUL Triton Acrylic Liquid – like its predecessor – comes from Franconia and that he paints with regionally produced paints. However, he is very happy to use paints from the region for his works of art. For him, quality and regionality complement each other particularly well here.
