KREUL artist portrait: Simone Urbanietz-Preiss

Exquisite glints of gold shine brightly from the canvas, sometimes clinging to bold streams of colour and sometimes nestling alongside softer shades. Simone Urbanietz-Preiss loves playing with paint and colour effects. Whether subtle or intense – the acrylic paint she uses is always paired with elegant gold. It is the interplay between the two that excites the artist and has given her the courage to venture a new start. The golden highlights in her pictures are real gold or composition metal. The artist applies both with gilding products from KREUL, KREUL Primer and KREUL Coating Varnish for leaf metal. We are wowed by the unique treasures she has created with our products and are delighted to present the artist and her unusual career. After all, while at school, she could never have dreamt that art would help her to her own golden age.

Painting the meditation

Getting colours to dance over the canvas with vital energy and adding an elegant twist with real gold or leaf metal: it's like meditation for this artist from Reutlingen. “I am not good at switching off and I have found art as a way to cope with all the things that have happened over the last few years,” Simone Urbanietz-Preiss explains. She is inspired mostly by nature and its world of colours. On daily walks with her two dogs, she gathers impressions for new painting ideas. She paints not only to find personal calm, but to encourage other people to go their own way and believe in themselves.

Bold with colour – bold to change things

For Simone Urbanietz-Preiss, life has not always been straightforward. A demanding job in the legal field and the pursuit of perfection pushed her to her limits. When her family suffered some terrible blows of fate, she hit rock bottom. What gave her the energy and a courage to face life again were paints and colours. In 2017, her husband suggested she used paint and colour to express her emotions. For Simone Urbanietz-Preiss, who immediately thought back to monotonous art lessons in school, the idea seemed absurd. But she gathered up the courage to paint.

“Something had to change – I wanted to change the world, to open people’s eyes that they should make more time for themselves, rethink their life if they aren’t happy or feel in a rut.” Simone Urbanietz-Preiss’ gilded acrylic artwork exudes her courage, emboldening many art lovers with her credo. The bold use of colour has turned the autodidact from an office worker into an artist.

Precious glints of gold with KREUL gilding products

Artistic success comes from a lot of work on a daily basis. On her Instagram channel Instagramkanal @simone_urbanietz_preiss, she not only displays her latest works, but also invites people interested in art to accompany her on her journey. We especially enjoy watching her create her art. She really likes working with KREUL gilding products – KREUL Leaf Metal, KREUL Primer and KREUL Coating Varnish for Leaf Metal. "As I almost always add the finishing touches to my art with composite metal or real gold, I use these products in every one of my pictures. The primer is perfect for my purposes and offers excellent grip. For me, I haven't found any better and more convincing product so far,” the artist says, praising our KREUL Primer.

Trying out new things couped with safety and stability

Simone Urbanietz-Preiss associates gold with a feeling of safety and stability. Her pictures exude elegance, appearing timelessly beautiful. Classical values expressed in multiple different ways. After all, the artist likes to experiment with acrylic painting techniques. “My art lives from the courage to try new things out. Techniques are constantly evolving. At the moment, for instance, I am only using a paintbrush to finish off my pictures, that is when I apply the primer for the gold,” she explains.

“I am what you would call a self-taught artist. I haven’t studied at an art college, nor have I ever booked any courses. My art lives from the courage to explore new and different things," We wish Simone Urbanietz-Preiss all the best with her art and the energy for new paint and colour experiments."
