Dark violet is a cold colour incorporating a high proportion of blue. Pure violet has a very short wavelength and is difficult for our eyes to properly make out. Anyone who has ever wondered whether they can distinguish violet or indigo in a rainbow will be acquainted with this problem. If we screw up our eyes, then we see dark bluish violet almost as black. Perhaps, that is a reason why the colour appears so mystical to us. In any case, for many creatives, a good argument to combine violet with black.
