Colour combos with violet
06/19/2024 |Mystic violet
Dark violet is a cold colour incorporating a high proportion of blue. Pure violet has a very short wavelength and is difficult for our eyes to properly make out. Anyone who has ever wondered whether they can distinguish violet or indigo in a rainbow will be acquainted with this problem. If we screw up our eyes, then we see dark bluish violet almost as black. Perhaps, that is a reason why the colour appears so mystical to us. In any case, for many creatives, a good argument to combine violet with black.
Colourful contrast with violet
But the intense colour goes perfectly with other bold colours, too. You can see this with the SOLO GOYA Acrylic Set of 8 Mixed Colours in 20-ml tubes. Here all the colours can be combined with each other. Violet is the perfect partner for Genuine Yellow Light, Genuine Orange, Yellowish Green, Rosé, Turquoise, Primary Blue and Neutral Grey. All the colours apart from Neutral Grey and Rosé have a high degree of saturation, which is why we talk about a colourful contrast. A powerful impact is created when the colours have the same intensity. This blaze of colour makes us think of summer. All the colours cry out for attention, trying to outshine each other.
Five colour combos for violet
Violet with Genuine Yellow Light and Genuine Orange:
This pairing really pops as the light yellow is the complementary colour for dark violet. In the colour circle, yellow and violet are positioned directly opposite each other. The sassy orange is next to yellow in the colour circle and so also gives a powerful contrast. This is what’s called a shared complementary contrast.
Violet with Yellowish Green:
Green is, like violet, a secondary colour. Together, the two colours radiate a harmony that we recognize from nature, for instance, from violet blooms against green foliage.
Violet with Primary Blue and Turquoise:
This colour combination impresses with its cool character as all the colours have a high proportion of blue.
Violet with Rosé:
Next to the sweetness and light of rosé, violet appears dark and mysterious. Both of these colours have a cool undertone that makes this combination appear fresh.
Violet with Neutral Grey:
Here, we get a high-impact contrast between the rich saturated colour and neutral shade that emphasizes the bright colourfulness of the violet.
