Today a landscape in oil paints, tomorrow a sketch in watercolours or a mood board in acrylic paints? Or perhaps it's time to try out gouache paints instead? With the KREUL el Greco starter sets, you can creatively realize your art ideas instantly. Whether oil paints, watercolours, acrylics or gouache paints, each set comprises 12 basic colours for you to get started straightaway. Easy, don’t you think? But you still have a few questions? We’re happy to answer these with our five most frequently asked questions about the KREUL el Greco artists’ starter paint sets.

How do the individual KREUL el Greco starter sets differ?

Our artists’ paint starter sets are available for oils, watercolours, acrylics and gouache paints. Each is different but all contain 12 colours in 12-ml mini-size tubes. For acrylics, the sets also come with 18 or 24 colours. The small tubes are ideal for trying out the different media. If you have always painted with acrylic paints, you may fancy testing the brilliance of oil paints in a first small project. Then you only need small quantities of paint, but a strong desire to experiment. The sets are perfect as basic kit for a painting course or as a gift idea for creatives.

What’s the difference between watercolour and gouache paints in the KREUL el Greco sets?

Watercolours and gouache are paints that you can resolubilize with water after they have dried. You thin them with a little water and apply them with a paintbrush. For both variants, you use absorbent watercolour paper as a painting surface. The difference is in the coverage. Watercolours are transparent and radiate thanks to the paper shining through while gouache paints originate from opaque painting.

Does the KREUL el Greco Acrylic starter set contain the same paint as KREUL el Greco 75-ml product?

No, it's not the same paint. The 12-ml tubes are not a mini-version of the big 75-ml tubes of KREUL el Greco paint. However, the paints have one thing in common: they are both pastose and dry to a glossy finish. The paint formulations, however, are not the same. The colours have, however, been coordinated with each other, so that both variants harmonize wonderfully with each other in a painting.

Why don’t we produce KREUL el Greco starter artists’ paints ourselves?

Whether SOLO GOYA Acrylic or KREUL Acrylic Matt Paint: we make almost all our paints ourselves. There are only a few exceptions. These include KREUL el Greco Oil Paints, KREUL el Greco Acrylic Paints, KREUL el Greco Watercolour Paints and KREUL el Greco Gouache Paints. We buy these paints from a trusted manufacturer. This enables us to extend our product assortment with a low-cost product series. If we produced these sets ourselves, the low price for a starter set would not be possible.

How do I clean the different paints off my paintbrushes?

If you have been painting with watercolour or gouache paints, it is enough to clean your paintbrushes in a glass of water. Wipe your paintbrushes well on a painting rag and dip them in a glass of water. Then wipe them again on a clean painting rag. Repeat the process until no more paint comes off the brush hairs. Shape the paintbrush and leave it to dry. Use the glass of water to clean other paintbrushes, then, when you no longer need it, filter the water and dispose of the paint sediment in the rubbish bin.

To make sure the paintbrushes you use for acrylic painting last for a long time, these should be cleaned with water and curd soap after you have finished painting, The paint residue can only be removed properly with soap. Wiping off leftover paint on a painting rag helps to protect the environment.

Oil paints contain linseed oil as a binder. Used paintbrushes can't be cleaned with water, but with a brush cleaner. Wipe the paintbrushes on a painting rag and then dip them in KREUL Brush Cleaner. This is cellulose-based, solvent-free, low-odour and even biologically degradable. Wipe the cleaned paintbrushes on another painting rag. For proper care of the brush hairs, you can wash the paintbrushes now and then with curd soap.
