Whether you’re painting on t-shirts, sneakers or cushion covers: DIY designs on fabrics are both stylish and trendy. So it's great that KREUL Javana Fabric Paint to Light- and Dark-Coloured Textiles is so easy to apply. To help you get results that you can really show off, here are our answers to the five questions most frequently asked about this product.

For which textiles is KREUL Javana Fabric Paint for Light-and Dark-Coloured Textiles suitable?

The fabric paint is suitable for light- and dark-coloured textiles made of cotton and mixed fabrics containing up to a maximum of 20 % synthetic fibres. T-shirts, jeans, viscose, canvas materials or linen are perfect surfaces for fabric paint. You can even paint fabrics with polyester content. For optimum washability, it is important that the fabric does not contain more than 20 % polyester. As the name suggests, the paint is suitable for both light- and dark-coloured fabrics. Our top tip: Decorate leather belts and bags with KREUL Javana Fabric Paint for Light- and Dark-Coloured Textiles. The fabric paint sticks well to leather and dries water-resistant. As leather goods don’t need washing, you don’t have to fix the paint to the surface.

What to do if you make a mistake when painting on your fabric?

The paint is water-resistant as soon as it has dried on the fabric. You fix the colours to make your painted designs washable. However, you will need a stain remover to get any accidental and dried paint marks off your fabric. Instead, we recommend that you let any mistakes dry and paint over them with KREUL Javana Fabric Paint for Light- and Dark-Coloured Textiles. The fabric paint is highly opaque and will cover anything underneath.

What’s the best way to fix the paint on fabrics?

After the paints have dried, we recommend you fix your painted design on the fabric. The painted design is then washable and can withstand temperatures up to 40 °C as long as you wash the fabric inside out in the washing machine. Creatives can choose between two fixing options. Either fixing in an oven for 8 to 10 minutes at 150 °C with top and bottom heat. Or fixing with an iron for 5 minutes on a cotton setting. Five minutes are enough for an area about the same size as a DIN A5 sheet of paper. For larger pieces of fabric, it takes commensurately longer to fix all painted areas. The more evenly you apply the heat to the fabric, the better the results. The best way to do this is to place the fabric between two sheets of baking paper and then iron it. Baking paper is also useful for fixing large pieces of fabric in the oven. Simply fold painted table cloths and runners and insert sheets of baking paper between the layers.

What is the difference to KREUL Javana Fabric Paint for Light-Coloured Textiles?

The fabric paints have different viscosity. KREUL Javana Fabric Paint for Light-Coloured Textiles is creamy in consistency and penetrates deep into the fibres of the fabric. It is very suitable for painting details or larger areas with a paintbrush. It is perfect for fabrics that have to be washed at 60 °C, e.g. table linen. The paint is suitable for light-coloured fabrics as its coverage is less opaque and the surface of the fabric shines through the paint. KREUL Javana Fabric Paint is paste-like in consistency and lies on top of the fabric surface. A fantastic fabric paint for application with a paintbrush, for stencilling and printing on fabric. The paint gives opaque coverage that is clearly visible on even on dark-coloured textiles.

Can you thin the paste-like fabric paint with water?

Yes, you can mix KREUL Javana Fabric Paint for Light- and Dark-Coloured Textiles with water. This makes the paste-like fabric paint creamier. Perfect for painting filigree details on fabric. Because of the higher water content, the coverage does change. So it is best if you only use a little bit of water to retain the paint’s coverage and colour brilliance.
