It contains masking fluid that you can simply rub off later, to leave paperwhite lines. Sounds complicated, but it's really easy. Still unsure? Here, we’re happy to answer the five questions that we are most frequently asked about SOLO GOYA Masking Marker.
### How long can you leave the dried masking fluid on the paper?
The SOLO GOYA Masking Marker contains a fluid that forms a rubber-like film when exposed to the air. This way, you can perfectly mask those areas you don’t want your paint to cover. We recommend rubbing off the rubber film on the same day. It is best to use an eraser rather than your fingers to remove it from difficult areas. The masking film can stay on the paper up to a maximum of three days. The reason for this is that otherwise the fluid in the SOLO GOYA Masking Marker bonds too firmly with the paper fibres. If you then try to remove the masking fluid later, it is more difficult or the paper may get damaged. For projects where you might want to leave the rubber film longer on the surface, we advise you use the SOLO GOYA Mask Liner.
### What can you do if the tip of the SOLO GOYA Masking Marker gets clogged up?
The fluid in the marker starts forming a film as soon as it comes into contact with oxygen. This reaction is important for masking, but the fluid can clump up at the marker tip. That’s why we have developed the SOLO GOYA Masking Marker so that you can simply remove the tip. Just remove the tip from the marker and clean it under warm, running water. Then let the tip dry and reinsert it into the marker. You can soften a heavily encrusted tip by soaking it in a glass of warm water. If you still can’t remove the encrustation, it is better to insert a new tip. KREUL replacement tips are available in different sizes from retailers. ### What paints are suitable for working with the SOLO GOYA Masking Marker?
The technique with which parts of the white paper is masked comes from watercolour painting. The SOLO GOYA Masking Marker was designed precisely for this. It is suitable for painting projects with very fluid paints like watercolours or the SOLO GOYA Aqua Paint Marker. Even gouache, acrylic ink or acrylic paints are suitable if you first thin these paints with water and apply them as colour washes.
### For what surfaces is the SOLO GOYA Masking Marker?
Projects with the masking marker work perfectly on paper, cardboard, card or canvas. We have even got beautiful results on paper cups. The SOLO GOYA Masking Marker is only suitable for wood if this has been previously primed. The marker is not recommended for ceramics or textiles.
### How should you store the SOLO GOYA Masking Marker?
It is best to store the marker horizontally and loosen the clean tip slightly. This stops the rubber fluid getting into the marker tip. While you're painting, you can also do something to keep the SOLO GOYA Masking Marker ready to use for longer. We recommend that every so often you simply draw lines on an extra sheet of paper to "write" the tip clean. After you have used the marker, use a paper towel to gently clean the masking fluid off the marker tip.
